If you’re reading this page, you’re probably planning to attend the 2017 LPCA Convention in Savannah, GA in May, and you’re curious about the paddleboard opportunity being advertised to conference attendees. If so, you’re in the right place! We have some great trips planned, so we hope you’ll join us.
Saint Simons Island Paddlboard and Kayak, along with its sister company CORE Adventure Group, is offering paddling excursions to people attending the 2017 LPCA Convention. Excursions will take place twice each day, once in the early morning and again in the evening just prior to sunset. Morning paddleboard excursions will meet at 6:00 AM and be on the water by 6:15 AM. This schedule will allow participants to view the sunrise, which will be around 6:30 AM. Evening excursions will meet at 7:15 PM and be on the water by 7:30 PM so participants may see the sunset, which will be around 8:12 PM. All paddling trips will leave from the boat ramp and adjacent beach on the southern tip of Tybee Island. Participants do not need any experience, and we will teach you everything you need to know. People of all skill levels are welcome!
When you book, please indicate whether you want to reserve a paddleboard or kayak. Which type of craft you choose is completely up to you. Our paddleboards are good for all skill levels, including beginners who have never tried paddleboarding. You don’t have to stand up, either. Paddleboards work perfectly well if you sit or kneel, which makes balancing much easier. Our kayaks are a good choice if you have limited mobility because all of the kayaks in our fleet are sit-on-top craft with excellent stability.
Q: What should I wear?
A: We recommend comfy athletic clothing, stretchy/yoga pants, swim or sun shirts, etc. Swimsuits are not required, but they are acceptable, of course. Alternatively, many people wear shorts and a t-shirt. We also recommend water shoes, hats, sunscreen, and sunglasses.
Also, bring a change of clothes and a towel. There will be a place to change clothes inside the rental home we are using as a base. It’s only a short walk from the place where we will launch all of our excursions.
Q: Will I get wet or fall in?
A: We don’t know. It is possible, so be prepared. We will teach you how to stay safe and how to stay on the board (or kayak, if you choose that option).
Q: Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
A: No, you don’t need to be a strong swimmer. After all, that’s why we’re here. Also, you’ll have a life jacket and the paddleboards and kayaks are nearly unsinkable. Finally, most of the water where we paddle is less than 4 or 5 feet deep.
No experience is necessary. Dr. Leonard will teach you everything you need to know, so you’ll be paddling in no time!
Q: What about _____________ (insert scary animal here)?
A: Scary animals run/swim away from groups of paddleboarders and kayakers. Therefore, we *might* see one or two from a distance, but not up close. Furthermore, we would never ever endanger our clients, and we strive to keep you safe.
Q: Does that mean we’ll also miss out on the cute and cuddly animals?
A: You will probably see some wildlife. However, we can never promise these things – the wildlife likes to hide from us. Nevertheless, we often see dolphins and birds.
